    Daniel Pelak, 30 Year Medical Device Senior Executive, Joins Affinergy's Board of Directors


    RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., February 14, 2006 - Affinergy, Inc., a Duke University spinout with a proprietary site-specific biological delivery system, announced that Daniel A. Pelak has joined its Board of Directors effective January 2006.

    "Affinergy has a broad and exciting range of potential product applications in the medical device industry," said Pelak.     Mr. Pelak is the CEO of IRM, Inc., a privately held medical device company that is pioneering a disruptive technology for the treatment of patients with heart disease. Prior to IRM, he was CEO of Closure Medical, which was recently acquired by Johnson & Johnson for approximately $400 million. Previously, he spent a long career at Medtronic, Inc. rising through levels of greater responsibilities in sales and marketing. He was ultimately responsible for the general management of several operating divisions at Medtronic. During his tenure at Medtronic, he was the Vice President of Cardiovascular Marketing, Vice President and General Manager Nortech, Vice President and General Manager Perfusion Systems, and Vice President and General Manager Cardiac Surgery Technologies.
