Affinergy Awarded Collaborative Funding Grant to Accelerate Research Programs
NC Biotechnology Center and Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology, & Science to sponsor a Kenan Institute/NC Biotechnology Center Fellow.
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 29, 2005 - Affinergy, Inc., a Duke University spinout with a proprietary site-specific biological delivery system, was recently awarded a Collaborative Funding Grant ("CFG") to support a post-doctoral fellow at Duke University in the laboratory of Dan Kenan, MD, Ph.D., Assistant professor of Pathology in the Department of Pathology and scientific co-founder of Affinergy.
The CFG is a unique program that promotes collaboration between universities and companies to encourage research into new areas that could create new jobs and ultimately improve healthcare outcomes. Four parties contribute resources to the Fellow Program: The North Carolina Biotechnology Center, the Kenan Institute, Duke University, and Affinergy. The goals of the program are to develop and expand technology that originates in universities and has potential commercial value.
"We are grateful for the continued support of the NC Biotech Center as well as the support of the Kenan Institute in helping us develop and commercialize Affinergy's technology," said Dr. Kenan. "This unique program will help sponsor a promising post-doctoral position in a dynamic field of research that has the potential to directly improve the quality of healthcare for many people."
"Affinergy deeply appreciates all of the critical programs supported by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, including the CGF program," said Peyton Anderson, chief executive officer at Affinergy. "Jobs are created and great companies are built when exciting ideas from our universities are efficiently translated to commercial applications. This program is another example of how the State of North Carolina is actively supporting the transition of university technologies into products and jobs. We look forward to accelerating our research activities and generating additional commercial success through this Collaborative Funding Grant."
