Affinergy Invited to Join BD's BioVenture Center to Accelerate Development of Interfacial Biomaterials Platform Technology

Affinergy's advanced coatings technologies will be expanded and commercialized from robust laboratory infrastructure of BD Technologies' scientific incubator.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., October 29, 2003 - Affinergy, Inc., a biomaterial coatings company with unique capabilities to regulate biological processes on the surface of synthetic materials, announced today that it has moved into laboratory facilities of the BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company)(NYSE: "BDX") BioVenture Center in Research Triangle Park, NC. This move will allow Affinergy to quickly establish laboratory operations while leveraging the significant infrastructure of a Fortune 500 company.

"Affinergy is excited to join the BD Technologies' BioVenture Center to accelerate our product development and commercialization strategy," said Peyton Anderson, CEO of Affinergy. "This should allow us to accelerate our technical development while also being more efficient with our financial resources. BD is a progressive partner in advancing the quality of products in a wide range of healthcare areas and their commitment to innovative research and the incubation of start-ups at their BD Technologies facility is admirable. Affinergy looks forward to exploring collaborative opportunities with the BD Technologies scientific team as well as other BD business units in a number of product areas."

In 1988, BD established BD Technologies in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, to support multiple collaborations with new and emerging Triangle life science businesses whose long-range visions are aligned with its own.

"BD Technologies welcomes Affinergy to our BioVenture Center and looks forward to supporting the advancement of their technology," said Dr. Charles Goldstein, VP Research and Site Director, BD Technologies. "The BioVenture Center was created to facilitate BD's active support of select life science companies that have cutting-edge technologies of medical importance and potential interest to BD. We believe that Affinergy's technology meets these two objectives.".

"Working at the BioVenture Center should accelerate our scientific plans by allowing us to leverage the laboratory infrastructure of a large corporate partner," said Dr. Dale Christensen, VP Scientific Development of Affinergy. "We are excited to explore collaborative discussions with fellow research professionals in fields of common interest. "
